[ Overview | Who | What | Where | When | Why | LDN Connect ]
Here you will find all the necessary information to tell you the who, what, where, when and why regarding participating on the site. After reading the information below we are sure you will understand the types of contributions and how to contribute them as well as the benefits (Rewards Program) you will receive for your efforts.
Who
First, the good news. All registered members of the site can post content to the site. Now, the bad news and it's not all that bad. Only a couple of contributions require approval from the LDN staff and these include article submissions. We have classified articles as those written specifically for the LDN and external articles that exist on other sites and are only referenced by the LDN. These reference external articles can be fed into our site through existing RSS feeds or they can be entered on the site by registered users. Once either type of article is submitted to the site it will be reviewed by the LDN staff and the author will be notified of any status changes during the review process.
Therefore, all you have to do to get started and contribute to the site is to register and then you are on your way to becoming a top contributor!
You can also request to have your own blog on the site!
What
There are many different types of contributions that can be submitted to the site and as stated above only the articles and blogs require approval.
Articles. Both original articles written specifically for the LDN and external articles that reference articles that reside on other sites can be submitted for approval. Our staff reviews every article submitted and the author is notified in every stage of the review process and once approved the aritcle is immediately posted to the site for consumption by the community where they can supply feedback on the article in the form of comments and votes.
Tips-n-Tricks. Tips and Tricks are brief summaries that should help the community in their everyday tasks regarding porting applications to the LSB or general Linux Development.
Brainstorm Ideas. These are meant to generate ideas on general Linux Development in order to foster conversation about them within the community.
Forum Posts. These are the usual topic/response community interaction that you find on many sites. Currently the two forums on the site include the LSB General Forum and the Linux Development Forum.
Blogs. The ability for members to request their own blog on the site is coning soon. We currently have a few bloggers on staff that write their own posts on a loose schedule.
Links. Another way to get involved within the LDN community is through LDN Connect. Here you can link to other community members to follow their posts, send private messages to community members and invite your friends to join the LDN community (remember that accepted invitations will earn you points too).
Comments/Voting. All registered users have the ability to comment and rank/vote on almost all content that is posted on the site. Ranking content will also weight the contributions for the Rewards Program. Please logon or register now in order to contribute to LDN and start earning your points!
Where
Also, there is always the Create Content link in your user navigation block in the left pane which will give you a page of all the different types on contributions that you have permissions to add! Please logon or register to access this link in your user navigation block.
When
Anytime! Since the process is online you can contribute any time of the day or night. If you are a night owl feel free to submit your contribution in the middle of the night or if you are more traditional in nature (if there is anything about software that is traditional) submit your content during business hours.
It does not matter when you submit your content - the only wrong thing to do is to NOT submit your contribution and start earning your LDN reward points today.
Why
Well, if the grattitude of our staff is not enough perhaps the adulation of the entire LDN community will help. We're sure the ability to be denoted as a proven contributor or even an expert within the LDN community are all the accolades you need. And if all else fails we hope the LDN Rewards Program will push you over the edge.
